Heavy Rain Watch for 3 February

MetService has issued a Heavy Rain Watch for Waimakariri for 20 hours from 2am-10pm Tuesday 3 February.

Update: 11am, 3 February:
Because the expected rain didn’t eventuate, MetService has lifted the Heavy Rain Watch.


Update 12pm, 2 February:

MetService has issued the Heavy Rain Watch for Malborough south of Seddon, and Canterbury north of the Rangitata River.

Expect periods of heavy rain, and amounts may approach warning criteria. There is a high chance of upgrading to a Warning.

Streams and rivers may rise rapidly. Surface flooding, slips, and difficult driving conditions are possible.

Please remember:

  • If it's flooded - forget it!
  • Stay home in extremely adverse conditions where possible
  • If you need to travel please drive to the conditions
  • Drivers should expect surface flooding and drive accordingly
  • Clean out gutters and drains
  • Prepare sandbags if your home is prone to flooding
  • Keep up to date with the MetService website.
