Located in the middle of the Kaiapoi East Regeneration Area, is one of Kaiapoi's neighbourhood playgrounds, the Kirk Street Reserve - which is about to be removed.
One of the key actions for the rural land in the Kaiapoi East Regeneration Area is for the Crown to revoke the reserve status of the Kirk Street Reserve, using the Greater Christchurch Regeneration Act 2016, and divesting the land to Council. This process is currently underway.
During May 2018 the playground and play equipment in the Kirk Street Reserve will be removed, and following this work, the land will be sown in grass.
The bark and wood boards from the playground are being donated for reuse in the Kaiapoi Food Forest.
