Water Main Undergrounding - Townsend Road

The water main that crosses Southbrook Stream is at risk of being struck by traffic as Townsend Road becomes busier.

Residents are asked to conserve water starting 6pm Sunday 7 July until 6am on Monday 8 July 2024.

Update 2 July

Council is reaching the critical phase of the Townsend Road Upgrade. The water pipe supplying Rangiora will be altered and during this work Rangiora will be supplied from the reservoirs.

Residents are asked to conserve water starting 6pm Sunday 7 July until 6am on Monday 8 July 2024.

Please consider delaying any non-urgent, high water usage tasks such as:

  • Using the dishwasher or washing machine
  • Taking baths or long showers
  • Using sprinklers or watering gardens

This work is weather dependent and maybe cancelled for rain.

The work will include

Modifying the watermain so it crosses under Southbrook Stream rather than over it. This will protect a critical water asset and future proof the site by creating additional space for the potential widening, or replacement, of the adjacent culvert.

Timing of work

Residents are asked to conserve water during the times mentioned above, the general project will be completed by 19 July, which includes removal of all traffic management.

Traffic Impacts

During construction Townsend Road will be down to one lane between South Belt and Fernside Road with temporary traffic lights in place.

An overnight road closure is planned on 7 July to complete the connection of the new water main, detours will be in place via Lehmans Road and Todds Road.

Weather
