Water Main Undergrounding - Townsend Road

The water main that crosses Southbrook Stream is at risk of being struck by traffic as Townsend Road becomes busier.

The work will include

Modifying the watermain so it crosses under Southbrook Stream rather than over it. This will protect a critical stormwater asset and future proof the site by creating additional space for the potential widening, or replacement, of the adjacent culvert.

Timing of work
This work will begin the week of 20 May and is expected to be completed by the end June.

Traffic Impacts

During construction Townsend Road will be down to one lane between South Belt and Fernside Road with temporary traffic signals in place.

How the work may affect you

Kerbside collections
Your kerbside collections will remain unchanged. Please ensure your bag or bins are in their usual spot on collection day.
Work will be undertaken from 7am to 6pm, Monday - Saturday. The new water main connection will be undertaken at night when the water demand is at its lowest, this is expected to occur in mid June and take one night. Further notice will be provided to nearby residents to advise of exact date of the planed night works.
In the event of bad weather or for unforeseen circumstances, the work may be delayed.

General impacts
Although we will try to minimise disruption, there will be some noise due to construction and the presence of heavy vehicles.

Thank you for your patience while we complete this work.
