Since the previous information notice circulated mid 2023 and the subsequent consultation, Council has approved construction of a key portion of cycleway between Kaiapoi and Pineacres.
The Kaiapoi to Pineacres portion of works will be a combination of 2.5m wide off-road shared path and neighbourhood greenway/shared space.
The work will include
- The construction of a cycleway which includes:
– A shared path between Smith Street and Sidey Quay, along Ranfurly Street and from the Kaiapoi Lakes to Pinesacres
– A neighbourhood greenway along Sidey Quay and also Old North Road between Ranfurly Street and the Lakes
- Associated drainage works
- Minor kerb and channel works on Smith Street, Dale Street and Ranfurly Street
- A crossing point installed on Williams Street, north of Old North Road, to link to the newly constructed Lees Road Path
- Sealing of the existing gritted path along Williams Street between Lees Road and the bus stop.
Timing of work
The works are proposed to commence in early 2026, and be completed by 30 June 2026. At this stage a tender has not been awarded for the works.
A further information notice will be provided once all route details are confirmed and Council have a more definitive timeline.
How the work may affect you
The works to be completed are in the road reserve. During work hours, we are expecting that access may be limited to properties in some areas.
However, residents living inside the work area will continue to have access outside of business hours and will be permitted to enter the work area to access their properties.
Traffic impacts
The works will only impact the carriageway to a minimal extent, some delays may occur during these times.
