“I worked alongside Robbie since 2004 and am grateful for his exceptional contribution over so many years. He helped shape many of the facilities our residents enjoy today, leaving a lasting legacy for our district.

“Our thoughts are with Robbie’s family, friends and all those who worked alongside him.”

Robbie served nine terms as a Waimakariri District councillor from 1998 to 2025, a total of 27 years. He continued his service on the Rangiora-Ashley Community Board, to which he was elected in 2025.

Board Chair Liz McClure says Robbie’s dedication to his community reflected his integrity and genuine commitment to make a difference.

“His time and knowledge were always given freely to help others, and I am grateful for all I learned from Robbie. His genuine love and passion for the community will be remembered with respect and gratitude. We extend our heartfelt sympathy and love to Robbie’s friends and family at this sad time.”

During his time on Council, Robbie served on a wide range of committees, including as a member of the Community and Recreation Committee, contributing to significant community projects, including the MainPower Stadium, Southbrook Sports Club, and the Dudley Park and Kaiapoi Aquatic Centres.

He also held the solid waste portfolio and Chaired Council’s Hazardous Waste Working Party, and represented Waimakariri on the Canterbury Waste Joint Committee, contributing to waste management decisions locally and across the region.

Alongside his local government service, Robbie served as Rangiora’s Community Constable, holding the rank of Senior Constable. His work in both roles reflected a longstanding commitment to the people of Waimakariri.

“Council will acknowledge Robbie’s passing at its next meeting and the flags in front of the Rangiora and Kaiapoi Service Centres will be lowered to half-mast on the day of his memorial this Friday, 16 October, as a mark of respect,” Mayor Gordon says.

“Robbie has been a long and faithful servant to the Waimakariri District devoting half of his life as an elected member, let alone his service to community police. We are indebted to him for his outstanding community service. Rest in Peace, Robbie.”

Robbie’s memorial service is to be held on Friday 16 October at 12 noon at the Rangiora RSA.
