Dog registration season has rolled around again, and with it the return of one of Waimakariri’s favourite competitions – Dog of the District!

We’re calling on proud dog owners across the district to show off their four-legged companions and celebrate what makes them truly special. Who will take out the 2026 title and claim the ultimate bragging rights?
How to enter
To put your dog forward, head to the competition post on our Facebook page and:
- Share a photo of your dog at their best
- Add a short description introducing them and tell us what makes them stand out
- Note: the Facebook post will be live on the afternoon of 2 July, so keep an eye out!
Entries close at 9am, Thursday 9 July.
Once entries have closed, a shortlist of finalists will be selected to move through to a public vote.
Prizes
The winning dog will receive:
- Free dog registration for a year
- A 10kg bag of premium dog food
- A certificate of achievement
- Plenty of bragging rights
We’ll also have spot prizes for our finalists.
