Waimakariri Libraries Trials Pop-up Library

Waimakariri residents will soon have easier access to library services thanks to a new Pop-up Library.

This initiative aims to bring a curated selection of books, magazines, and other library resources directly to communities that may not have easy access to one of our physical libraries (Rangiora, Kaiapoi and Oxford).

Waimakariri Libraries are trialling this service for a period of three months, before a decision is made to continue the offering long term.

The Pop-up Library will be run out of Council's Mobile Community Hub where visitors can find a range of reading materials and have the chance to ask librarians for reading recommendations and technology assistance.

The mobile service will pop up at various locations, including community centres, preschools, schools, aged care facilities, and even playgrounds.

District Libraries Manager Luke Sole says the Pop-up Library is about building connections by taking library services to parts of the community that find it difficult to reach a library.

"We offer so much – from books and online resources to community education and entertainment. We’re excited about the prospect of bringing these experiences to our outlying communities, ” Luke says.

The Pop-up Library was first trialled while the Rangiora Library was closed for refurbishments in March last year. Library members said they enjoyed the experience of a library outside of the physical building.
