Two (Refreshed) Parks You HAVE TO Check Out with the Kids This Spring/ Summer

We’re so excited to share that the refreshed Currie Park play space is officially open, and the new playground at Norman Kirk Park is not far behind!

Back in 2023, we shared that the small playground at Currie Park had seen better days. So, rather than put in a new playground there (with Norman Kirk Park right around the corner), we thought why not create a cool nature play space at Currie Park and put a bigger, better playground at Norman Kirk Park – and you agreed.

You gave us your thoughts on what you’d like to see at both parks, and we set about bringing as much of it as possible to life.

So, what’s new at Currie Park?

The natural play space includes walking logs, stepping posts, rock boulders, a maze, a bug hotel, and new trees and plantings including a wildflower area!

The trees and plant species have been specially chosen to attract bugs, insects and birds so there’s loads to discover.

We’re also working on some signs that we’ll place around the space with images and details of the bugs, insects and birds for tamariki to learn about and try to find.

Construction of the Norman Kirk play space started this week so get ready for a climbing tower, a swing set, a carousel, a rocker and more. We’re expecting to open at the end of November – stay tuned!
