Progress results are in and show Dan Gordon has won Waimakariri's mayoralty race.
Mayor-elect Gordon received 13,639 votes. His challenger Paul Williams received 4,304 votes.
In this coming term he will be joined by new Councillors:

- Bruce McLaren
- Shona Powell
- Tim Bartle
Returning Councillors:
- Tim Fulton
- Niki Mealings
- Jason Goldsworthy
- Joan Ward
- Brent Cairns
- Philip Redmond

"Thank you to Waimakariri residents for re-electing me as your Mayor. It is humbling to be representing our District for a third term. I will continue to work hard for all of our communities, while listening carefully to your concerns and representing you to the very best of my ability," says Mayor-elect Gordon.
"Congratulations to all of those who have been elected throughout Waimakariri whether it be Council and Community Board. We still have a lot of work to do to keep Waimakariri thriving and moving forward. I am looking forward to working with you all. Together we will be working hard with our community to continue to make Waimakariri a positive and attractive place for residents to live, work and play."
Waimakariri District Council has two decision-making parts: the Council and Community Boards.
Elections are held for the following positions every three years:
- Mayor (1)
- Councillor (10)
- Community Board members (24)
The voter return was 37.08%, being 18,225 votes, excluding votes in transit to the processing centre and special votes.
Not all ordinary votes have been counted yet – votes received on the last morning are still in transit to the Electoral Officer.
