Have Your Say – Voting Now Open

From today, voting is officially open in the 2025 local government elections.

Across the district, residents will be choosing who represents them for the next three years. Positions up for election in Waimakariri include:

  • Mayor
  • Councillors for the Kaiapoi-Woodend, Oxford-Ohoka, and Rangiora-Ashley wards
  • Community Board members for Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi, Rangiora-Ashley, Woodend-Sefton, and Oxford-Ohoka
  • Environment Canterbury (ECan) Councillors.

Voting papers are being delivered to letterboxes from today. But please be patient, as NZ Post will be delivering these up to 22 September.

If you have shifted house recently, or lost your voting papers, visit vote.nz to be issued a special voting paper.

Once completed, you can post them back or drop them into one of the secure ballot boxes at Council service centres and libraries across the district.

When you’re ready, simply:

  1. Fill in your voting papers
  2. Seal them in the envelopes provided
  3. Drop them into one of our orange voting bins at Council Service Centres, Libraries, MainPower Stadium, or return via FreePost at NZ Post boxes.

Voting closes at 12 noon on Saturday, 11 October 2025. To make sure your vote is counted, it’s best to post your papers by Tuesday, 7 October.
