BNZ Corner: Construction Starting Soon

Construction is about to begin on one of the most exciting projects Rangiora has seen in years – the transformation of the BNZ corner.

The site, on the corner of High and Ashley Streets, was purchased by Cornershop Investments, a group of locals with a track record for delivering projects in Rangiora from Council in 2023.

The team is made up of Eileen and Murray Irvine, Bridget Hope and Gabe Rijpma, and Andrea and Jake Gardner.

For Murray and Eileen Irvine, having already played a key role in Good Street’s redevelopment, this is another opportunity to invest in their hometown.

“We’re excited to announce construction is starting soon, with the building ready and open by the end of 2026,” Murray says.

“Eileen and I are exceptionally proud of what we’ve already achieved in Rangiora, and we can’t wait to add even more vibrancy to the town centre.”

The BNZ corner sees thousands of vehicles passing daily and is a site that demands something special – and Council leaders say that’s exactly what is coming.

Mayor Dan Gordon described the project as “a great outcome for a high-profile piece of land in the Rangiora Town Centre.”

“We are thrilled to be working alongside developers on such an important site,” he says.

“Residents often tell us one of the things they love most about Waimakariri is the unique character of our townships. This project will strengthen Rangiora’s character, look and feel – and add to stunning entrance to the CBD.”

The vision is for a striking two-storey development that will blend seamlessly with Rangiora’s existing charm, while also delivering fresh retail and business spaces that will bring more people into town.

Council Property Manager Rob Hawthorne says the development ticks all the boxes.

“From Council’s perspective, this is going to bring exciting new retail and business opportunities right into the heart of Rangiora.”
