Do you know a young person making a real difference in the Waimakariri District? Now’s your chance to shine a spotlight on their incredible work!
Nominations for the Youth Service Award are officially open and will close on Monday 4 August. This award, introduced in 2022 as part of the Community Service Awards, celebrates the outstanding contributions of young people across our district.
Lauren Tilley, Youth Development Facilitator at Waimakariri District Council, says the calibre of nominees continues to amaze them year after year.
“There are some truly fantastic young people in our community doing inspiring things,” Lauren says. “These awards are our way of recognising just how valuable their contributions are.”
Choosing just two recipients is no easy task.
“That’s definitely the hardest part, but don’t let that stop you from nominating someone. We absolutely love reading the nominations and learning about all the awesome things young people are doing, it’s a real highlight for us.”
Mayor Dan Gordon echoes the importance of acknowledging community service, especially among youth.
“There’s a huge amount of voluntary work happening in Waimakariri, and it’s vital that we recognise those efforts,” Mayor Gordon says. “The Youth Service Award, created in partnership with the Youth Council, honours young people who are making a meaningful impact in our community.”
