Girls Can Do Car Maintenance

Learn how to look after your car at this free Rangiora event.

Council is teaming up with Rangiora Motor Group and Zonta to run a free session for women to learn more about car maintenance, covering the things we should all be doing to keep our cars in tip-top shape. (Zonta International, founded in 1919, is a global organisation dedicated to building a better world for women and girls.)

Where:  Rangiora Motor Group, 29 Southbrook Road, Rangiora

When:  Tuesday 1 July, 5.30 p.m. to 7.30 p.m.

The event is a local continuation of a series that’s been run in Ashburton and Timaru and will be a first for Waimakariri.

Rangiora Motor Group is supplying cars and trained technicians, and the Council is supplying a bite to eat at the end of the night. The event will have different workstations set up for hands-on learning, as well as time in the workshop getting under the bonnet.

“It’s a free event and there'll be places for 40 women, says Council’s Road Safety Coordinator Peter Daly. Mr Daly said similar courses in Ashburton and Timaru had been hugely popular.

“Attendees will learn the basic things we should be doing to keep our cars in top shape, and as safe as they can be – all delivered in a safe and friendly environment.”

Rangiora Motor Group Sales Manager Russell Lane says “These would be great classes for those new to driving, but also great for anyone wanting to know more about how to look after their car. If you’re thinking about buying a car, we’ll also have some valuable insights about what to look for and about how Rightcar safety ratings work.”

Service Advisor Rita Gathercole said it would be a friendly, supportive environment. Rita will be onsite to provide support where necessary. It’s anticipated that this evening will help women of all ages to build independence and understand more about how their vehicles need to be looked after.

Rita says “We’re happy to host this event and welcome women into our workshop for an event that’s about empowerment and increasing knowledge in a friendly environment. I’d encourage any woman who has wondered about basic vehicle maintenance and knowledge, but been afraid to ask, to register for this event.”

Those wanting to attend the event must be 18 years or older.
