Waimakariri Youth Week 2025

From Monday 19 May, the Waimakariri District will be buzzing as we celebrate our rangatahi - our young people, during Youth Week!

This nationwide festival of events is all about shining a spotlight on the incredible contributions young people make to our communities.

Lauren Tilley, the Waimakariri District Council’s Youth Development Facilitator, couldn’t be more excited.

“Youth Week is our chance to celebrate our amazing young people, their energy, creativity, and individuality.

It’s about giving them opportunities to discover new interests, connect with others, and push themselves to try something different. Plus, it’s a wonderful way to show off some of the fantastic activities and services we’ve got on offer right here in Waimakariri!”

Lauren says the Waimakariri District, defines youth as those aged 12-24, and there’s something for everyone during Youth Week.

“From sunset yoga, home spa activities, skate jams and learner licence drop-in sessions, there’s so much to dive into.”

This year’s theme is “Take Our Place – Whai Wāhitanga,” a meaningful call to action that Lauren says resonates perfectly with Waimakariri’s rangatahi.

“It’s all about inviting others to step into our shoes - seeing what we see, doing what we love, and understanding what we care about. It’s a celebration of youth culture, passions, and connections. We can’t wait to see everyone join in!”

So, mark your calendars and let’s celebrate our young people in style!

Youth Week in Waimakariri promises to be packed with fun, inspiration, and opportunities for our rangatahi to shine.
