70 High Street (BNZ Corner) — Construction

Construction has begun on the new retail and commercial development on the corner of High and Ashley Streets.

The site was purchased by Cornershop Investments from Council in 2023 for a two-story retail and commercial building.

The work will include
  • Earthworks.
  • Construction of a two-story facility.
  • Landscaping.
  • Infrastructure work.
Timing of work

Hoardings will be set up around the site in early November and construction is expected to be completed by the end of 2026.

Traffic impacts

While the hoardings are being erected on the High Street frontage, the footpath will be closed between the crossing and traffic lights and the eastbound straight through/left turn lane will be merged with the right turn lane. Once the hoardings are up along here, a 1.5m wide footpath will remain.

When working on the Ashley Street frontage, the southbound right turn lane will be closed, with no right turn into High Street, and the northbound traffic will be shifted across into the closed turn pocket. Once the hoardings along Ashley Street are in place, the footpath will be closed, with the northbound bus stop closed and a temporary stop installed on Blackett Street. The southbound bus stop will be shifted back into the two car parks to improve visibility for pedestrians.
