The Waimakariri Residential Red Zone Recovery Plan included proposed development of Recreation and Ecological Linkages throughout the regeneration areas. In Kaiapoi South, these included the Courtenay Esplanade, accessway, and connection to The Oaks.
The work focuses on The Oaks reserve area (and associated linkages to Kāikanui St, Courtenay Drive and the Kāikanui walkway). The existing naturalised grass walkway along the Courtenay stream will be retained with minor improvements and an alternative formed route.
This is one of the last remaining projects under the District Regeneration Programme and will complete the implementation of the linkages in the Kaiapoi South regeneration area.
The work will include:
- New gravel path from Kaikanui Street with new fencing, gardens and trees at the entrance
- Installation of picnic table with bench seats
- New gravel paths to link Courtenay Drive and Kaikanui Street to the existing path by Kaikanui Stream
- Removal of redundant timber fences within the reserve
- A 2m wide grass path along Courtenay Stream linking the existing Kaikanui Stream path to existing paths in Huria Reserve
Timing of work
Fastgrass plan to commence the works from Monday 17 June 2024. The works are likely to take four to six weeks, subject to weather.
How the work may affect you
There will be some pathway closures while work is underway. There may be some minor construction noise but we will try to keep disruption to a minimum. Works will be carried out between the hours of 7am to 6pm, Monday to Saturdays only.
