Pegasus Community Centre — Construction

We’re constructing the new Community Centre in Pegasus.

Planning for a new Pegasus Community Centre began with a feasibility study in 2020/21, which confirmed the need for a versatile, multi-use facility to support the growing community. Funding for the project was allocated in the Council’s 2021–31 Long Term Plan.

The new centre will replace the leased space at 8 Tahuna Street, which has served the community well but the lease is due to expire in October 2026. During the construction period, the leased site will remain in operation.

Community input has played a key role throughout the process. Consultation took place in February 2023 to help determine the location, followed by further engagement in December 2024 to shape the design. The concept was approved by Council, and resource consent was granted in July 2025.

Designed to be practical and cost-effective, the building will feature simple construction methods and materials. The new centre will include a welcoming foyer with the much-loved book cave, an open-plan kitchen, meeting room, formal boardroom, and flexible function spaces that connect seamlessly to outdoor areas.

Once complete, the Pegasus Community Centre will provide a purpose-built space to support a wide range of community activities, helping to strengthen social connections across the district. Contractors will be working on site between the hours of 7am–6pm, Monday to Saturday.

The construction site is not expected to impact current users of the lakeside or commercial areas as it is well contained. Park Run will continue to operate as normal.

The work will include
  • Construction of a new 400m2 community facility.
  • Thirty one car parks including two accessible.
  • Landscaping.
  • Infrastructure work.
Timing of work

Work will commence on 15 October 2025 and is expected to be completed by October 2026.
