The Council is upgrading water mains in Rangiora Woodend Road, between Chinnerys Road and School Road, and School Road between Rangiora Woodend Road and Gibbs Drive.
A new water main is being constructed along the eastern side of Rangiora Woodend Road and the southern side of School Road. This will ensure level of service is not impacted by potential growth in the east and south of Woodend.
The work will include
- Laying a new water main along the eastern side of Rangiora Woodend Road between Chinneys Road and School Road
- Laying a new water main along the southern side of School Road between Rangiora Woodend Road and Gibbs Drive.
Timing of work
The contract has been awarded to Ashburton Contracting Ltd. The work is planned to begin the week of 6 January 2025 and is expected to last up to four months. Additionally, please be aware that drainage upgrades are planned at the eastern end of School Road. This is a separate project, set to take place around the same time as the water main upgrade. As a result, construction may continue in the area beyond the timeframe needed for this project.
Traffic impacts
At times during construction Rangiora Woodend Road and School Road will be down to one lane with temporary traffic signals in place and access to side roads may be limited during some periods.
The intersection of Rangiora Woodend Road and School Road may be carried out as night works with the intersection closed during night-time hours. Notice would be given in advance of this happening.

Your kerbside collections will remain unchanged. Please ensure your bag or bins are in their usual spot on collection day.
Notice of change in traffic management
We will do our best to give you enough notice to adjust to any changes in traffic management, please keep an eye out for more updates.
Hours
7am to 6pm, Monday to Saturday, although some night works may be required.
Weather
In the event of bad weather or for unforeseen circumstances, the work may be delayed.
Safety
Please warn your children of the dangers posed by road works. Ensure that they stay well back from the work site and they follow the directions of the workers.
