Driving along Charles street, you may be wondering what lies behind the large piles of earth?
This is the newly constructed dewatering site built to contain the dredge material from the dredging works on the Kaiapoi River.
To get to the site, dredge material will travel from the barge on the river through 750 metres of pipe. The material will then remain onsite and dewater, i.e the water will slowly flow back to the river once it has been sufficiently treated, leaving behind just silt.
Boaties will be pleased as these works will greatly improve the navigability of the river.
