North East Rangiora Water Supply Main - Kings Street to East Belt

We're installing a new water supply main along the south side of Blackett Street (King Street intersection to number one), across the railway line and along the north side of Keir Street.

Council's contractor Ongrade will be starting the next section of works on Monday 22 July 2024. In this section of works we will installing a water pipe under the railway lines from the end of Blackett Street through into the reserve at the end of Keir St. The works will all be off the road and will not affect the use of Blackett/Albert and Keir Streets.

Ongrade will ensure that access to the Rangiora Toy Library and Station Cafe during opening hours is maintained with minimal disruption. Resident access on Keir St will not be impacted for this stage of works.

Ongrade Drainage and Excavation Ltd has been engaged by the Waimakariri District Council to undertake the Northeast Rangiora Supply Main Contract along Blackett Street, Rangiora.

This project will be starting on Monday 1 July 2024, when traffic management and site fencing will be installed to safely complete this project. We plan to have the project completed in stages, starting at the King St / Blackett St Roundabout and heading East.

The first stage of works will require the intersection of King St and Blackett St to be closed while this work takes place, which we plan to have completed by the end of August 2024. This will allow us with a safe work space to install the new water and sewer main, upgrade the existing stormwater and rebuilding the roundabout and approach islands.

Resident Access

Vehicular access to residents properties within the road closure will be affected at times, however we will provide at least 48hrs notice of any upcoming access disruptions, and will discuss options to  minimise these as much as possible with you. Note that pedestrian access to residents will be provided at all times.

Traffic Management

A traffic management plan will be in place and strictly adhered to, which ensures the safety of all pedestrians, residents and the general public during this time.  There will be a need for road closures and detours for each stage of the works. Notification of these, or any changes to the traffic management, will be given prior.

6 June 2024

A new water supply main is being installed to service the east side of Rangiora. This 375mm diameter water supply main will be installed along Blackett Street (from King Street to the Toy Library) across the railway corridor and along the full length of Keir Street to the Bellgrove Development.

A new wastewater main will be installed between 208 King Street to 60A Blackett Street to meet Council’s level of service requirements and facilitate the removal of wastewater mains from private properties.

The existing stormwater pipes at the Blackett/King Streets intersection will be upgraded to meet Council’s level of service requirements. To facilitate this work the existing roundabout will be removed and reconstructed.

Ongrade Drainage & Excavation Ltd have been awarded the North East Rangiora Water Supply Main contract. Ongrade will plan to start work at the beginning of July and aim to complete the project before Christmas.

Further information will be provided about road closures/ lane closures in the coming weeks and letters will be delivered to the residents & businesses directly effected by the work soon.
