Parking

While there are currently no restrictions preventing trucks from being parked in a residential area, if you believe a truck is causing or has damaged either the road, footpath, kerb or berm, please contact the Roading Team at the Council on 0800 965 468 (0800WMKGOV), email office@wmk.govt.nz or report the issue on the Snap Send Solve app.

Note: To ensure the correct location of the issue is recorded, please send from where an issue has occurred. If you can't, send us the Snap Send Solve with as much location detail in the content as you can. Issues reported using Snap Send Solve can only be attended to during normal office hours.

Unfortunately the Council does not accept payment instalments for infringements. Payment is required in full by the due date as indicated on the infringement notice.

Information about making an internet banking payment to the Council is online. View the Pay Online page, or you can visit our customer service centres at Rangiora, Kaiapoi and Oxford. Please note cheques are no longer accepted as a payment method.

Some of the District's designated mobility car parks do have parking time restrictions which are clearly indicated by painted road markings and/or signage. Please make sure your mobility badge is displayed when parking in these car parks, and avoid parking for longer than the signposted time limit.

If the vehicle has been there for a while, you can phone the Police to see if it has been reported stolen.

If the vehicle hasn't been reported stolen, there is a good chance it may have been abandoned. Please report it to the Council.  We'll need the vehicle details like rego, colour, make and model and how long you think it's been there.  Once reported we have a number of steps we must undertake, which includes trying to make contact with the current registered owner, before we can remove the vehicle. We'll complete these tasks as soon as possible.

Please contact the Council on 0800 965 468 (0800WMKGOV), email office@wmk.govt.nz or report it using the Snap Send Solve app.

These types of issues are dealt with under the Councils local Parking Bylaws. Section 12 of the Waimakariri District Council Parking Bylaw 2019 notes that 'No person shall park a motorhome, bus, caravan or trailer on any road or in a public place for a continuous period exceeding seven days from date of inspection by authorised officers.'  This means that once reported and the owner has been notified they have seven days to move the vehicle/trailer.

To report a vehicle/trailer please contact the Council on 0800 965 468 (0800WMKGOV), email office@wmk.govt.nz or report it on the Snap Send Solve app.
