Road Safety Initiative Rolled Out This Week

Speed, seatbelts and distraction are three areas being highlighted in a road safety initiative being rolled out this week in Waimakariri.

Estuary Intruders Endanger Wildlife

Local residents and the Council were left dismayed by extensive damage caused to the Ashley Rakahuri Estuary after a vehicle drove into the protected area, became stuck and sent for reinforcements.

Oxford Rural No.1 Water Supply to be Shut Down for 24 Hours

The water level in the aquifer that supplies Oxford Rural No. 1 water supply scheme has declined in recent weeks due to the hot weather and lack of rainfall. Because of the low level Waimakariri District Council will be shutting the water supply off for a day to undertake maintenance work which will make the main bore that supplies the Oxford Rural No.1 water supply scheme (the McPhedrons Road well) more resilient.

Community Service Recognised

Mayor Ayers presented Michael Petterson with a Community Service Award at our Council meeting on Tuesday 5 February 2019.  This award was in recognition of his role in establishing the Twining Relationship that Waimakariri has with the Zonnebeke Municipality in Belgium.

Smith Street One Way for Water Main Installation

Traffic changes are on their way for a stretch of Kaiapoi’s Smith Street, between Sewell Street and Princess Place. Contractors will be moving in on Thursday to begin a water main installation along this section of road, which will become one-way for eastbound traffic until mid-March.

New Look for Victoria Park Loos

Work begins next Monday 4 February to completely revamp the toilet facilities at Victoria Park, Rangiora inside and out.

Do you need help to sit your learner drivers licence test? The Learner Driver Mentoring Programme, run by Police and supported by Waimakariri District Council, will be offered again this year.
