Ohoka Water Treatment Plant Upgrade - 339 Bradleys Road, Ohoka

The Ohoka Water Treatment Plant is being upgraded to include UV treatment.

The installation of UV treatment is required for the supply to meet the new Drinking Water Quality Assurance Rules (DWQAR) that were released by the Water Services Authority-Taumata Arowai.

UV treatment involves water passing through UV lamps in order to treat for any bacteria.

The work will include

  • Construction of a new building and vehicle crossing at the existing Water Treatment Plant site at 339 Bradleys Road. This type of work will be similar to a standard residential building being constructed, with machinery e.g. excavators and trucks, and power tools being utilised by the building contractors.
  • New treatment components installed within the new building.
  • Connection into existing watermain outside 339 Bradleys Road.

Timing of work

The main works are due to start in May 2025 and are expected to last five months.

How the work may affect you

During the works, there may be short water outages in order to connect into the existing water infrastructure. Additional information and conserve water notices will be sent prior to any outages. Some works may be noisy and may cause some periodic disruption to nearby residents. While every effort will be made to ensure noise levels are reduced, there will be instances during the day where noise levels are expected to increase.

During the construction, there will be a large number of contractors coming and going from site. Traffic management will be in place to complete the required connection into the existing watermain and construction of new vehicle crossing on Bradleys Road.

Traffic impacts

Traffic management will be in place to complete the works within the road reserve.

There may be brief disruptions to your water supply. We do not anticipate any disruption to wastewater, telephone or power services.
