Back in the Water

For all you water babies out here you will be pleased to know that our Aquatic Facilities in Kaiapoi and Rangiora will be re-opening at Alert Level 2. Kaiapoi Aquatic Centre will be open from 6am on Thursday 14 May with Dudley Park Aquatic Centre not too far behind as it comes up to temperature.

To save money the plant and heating equipment was turned off at both Centres and they will need to be active for a few days to get the pool temperatures back to normal. So if you are coming in for a swim in the first few days it will be a bit chilly.20200513 - Dudley Pool lanes

Like all Council facilities we will need to take your details for contact tracing purposes. We also need you to keep practising your physical distancing including when while lining up, within the facility and in the pool. This means that we will be limiting numbers with only 24 swimmers in the water at Kaiapoi and 32 at Dudley at one time – four swimmers in each lane.

From Monday 18 May we will start to take bookings for lane space. This will help us manage the space better as we will be having some closed session times so we can have all activities running in the available space. The times of limited access will be advertised the day prior.

If you could arrive and leave in togs where possible that would be a great help as access to changing rooms will be limited and this will minimise contact in high touch areas.

We are working out how we can provide our Learn to Swim and Aquarobics programmes under the Alert Level 2 guidance. More information will be coming out shortly. Learn to Swim accounts will be credited and concession cards will be extended for the closure period.

Equipment will be available by request only and sanitised after each use. This includes access equipment such as the water wheelchair and hoists.

Please be patient as things may take a bit longer, follow signs and guidance while within the facility and if you have a question, we will keep our website and Facebook updated or give us a call on 0800 WAISWIM.
