Important Update for Contractors and Home Builders

We have updated our guidance for site visits and building inspections as we move to Alert Level 2. Contractors are back on site with more work restarting and building work is getting underway across the District, we need to ensure this can be done as safely as possible.

To help support this we are changing the way we manage our site visits and home building inspections to keep all of us safe during the COVID-19 pandemic (Level 2).20200423 - Digger

We want to work with you to ensure we are appropriately limiting the physical interaction between people. This will help reduce the transmission of coronavirus (COVID-19) and protect you and council staff.

Contractors currently engaged by Council will need to submit an addendum to or updated Site Specific Safety Plan (SSSP) with Covid-19 mitigations.  Supporting documents for contractors below:

Please contact the engineer managing your project if you have any questions.

House builders can also expect some changes when our building inspectors carry out their work at your property. You can book an inspection through the usual channels call 0800 965 468 or email bcbooking@wmk,govt.nz

To make it easier to organise your inspection, when you're making a booking please make sure you have the following information to hand or include it in your email:

  • Site point of contact details
  • Confirmation that you have a visitors register for your site
  • That consented documents are available on site
  • That the building will be accessible at the time of inspection

Before coming on to site our inspector will call the point of contact person so they can meet at the entrance to the site.

Before we visit we will ask some questions about your health and those in your family. We will also take extra safety precautions during our visit. You will still get the same level of service – just from a distance. You can find out more about what you can expect here
