Council Seeks Feedback on Roundabout Proposal

Community feedback is being sought on whether or not a roundabout should be installed at the Williams Street/Beach Road/Smith Street intersection in Kaiapoi.

Councillor John Meyer says “It's always been a bit of a tricky intersection to navigate, particularly during peak hours which can make it unsafe. There has also been a lot of development in north Kaiapoi and at Beach Grove, increasing traffic volumes on these roads. Council has money set aside for the project, but we want to hear from the community before a final decision is made”.

By making the intersection safer and easier for motorists to use, Council hopes that it would encourage the use of Smith Street as an arterial road through to the town centre, rather than people using the nearby Charles, Sewell and Cass Streets.

You can have your say until 5pm Friday 10 November. Feedback will be presented to the Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board at its meeting on 20 November.
