Daniel Carter’s One of Us!

Introducing one of Waimakariri’s newest Kiwis: Daniel Carter. And no, he didn’t grow up on the other side of the river in Southbridge, play a bit of rugby, and live up the high life in France!

20170804_DanielCartersOneOfUsThis one hails from Buckinghamshire in the United Kingdom.

And he is now a New Zealand citizen after taking the oath of allegiance to New Zealand alongside 32 other new citizens in this month’s citizenship ceremony.

The United Kingdom, South Africa, the United States, the Netherlands, India, Colombia, Austria and Canada were all represented at the ceremony, nine of which will be held this year in the council chambers.

Mr Carter has lived in New Zealand since 1994, and said gaining citizenship had been the last thing left to do, having long since felt like a Kiwi.

His very proud mother and grandmother were on hand to watch him as he joined Waimakariri Mayor David Ayers (pictured) to take the oath.

Asked whether sharing the name of a famous rugby player in New Zealand was advantageous or a disadvantage, Mr Carter, who lives in Rangiora, said it had been a little bit of both.

Mind you, he might have had the ‘other’ Dan Carter blushing when quizzed as to who his favourite rugby player was: “Richie McCaw” came back the answer.

He didn’t even have to think about it!

Congratulations to Daniel and all of the other new citizens who are now officially New Zealanders after the recent ceremony.

It is great to have you with us.
