Southbrook Road One Lane for Night Work

As part of the upgrade to the intersection of Southbrook Road, South Belt and Percival Street, contractors will be installing a water main across Southbrook Road on Sunday night. Southbrook Road will be reduced to one lane and stop/go traffic management will be in place.

To ease disruption to motorists, the work is being carried out at night with traffic management being in place from 3pm on Sunday until 6am on Monday morning. Aerial photo of Southbrook Road

Council’s Roading Manager Ken Stevenson says “This water main work is the last of the ‘underground’ work which has been a major component of the project. Working around underground services has certainly had its challenges and the weather has created significant delays. We’re slightly behind our anticipated completion timeframe but we’ve not done too badly. We’re getting close to finishing now”.

All sewer work has been completed and the last of the stormwater work should be finished by tomorrow morning.

Remaining work includes new kerb and channel and footpaths on South Belt from Kings Mowers to Matawai Park which will take around four weeks. “Once this work is done, preparation of the road surface will be carried out ready for road sealing. This is likely to be late July providing the weather doesn’t throw any curve balls our way” says Ken.

The last of the signal ducting for the traffic lights will do down on Sunday night and the last of the pole bases will go in a few weeks later.

The intersection will be completed and fully open to traffic and pedestrians in late July (weather permitting).
