Annual Hui Takes Place Thursday 16 March

Tomorrow night sees the annual Hui a Tau (Annual Meeting) between Council and Te Ngāi Tū Ahuriri at the Tuahiwi Marae.

The meeting is hosted in alternate years by each party, and is a key event for the partnership between the Council and Te Ngāi Tū Ahuriri that is formalised by the Memorandum of Understanding between the Council and the Rūnanga, first signed in 2003.

Mayor David Ayers says the relationship with the Runanga is important at all levels but also acknowledges the role Te Ngāi Tū Ahuriri has played in this rohe (District), which dates back 40 generations - long before the Treaty of Waitangi.
