The Waimakariri District Council is one of the largest employers in the Waimakariri District and has become an employer of choice.
The Waimakariri District Licensing Committee has complimented licensees and alcohol establishment managers around the Waimakariri District following a joint control purchase operation done recently with the Police and Community and Public Health.
Forty-six licensed premises in the District were checked for the sale of alcohol to under-age people, with none of those failing to take the necessary identification and age checks. The control purchase operation is carried out regularly to ensure that premises comply with the requirements of the Sale and Supply of Alcohol Act 2012.
The District Licensing Committee expressed its pleasure at the ‘clean sweep’ of the operation and says that compliance and the monitoring of licensed premises is working well in getting the ‘No ID, No Sale’ message through.
The District Licensing Committee has been working with licensees in ensuring that managers observe the strict requirements of their licence conditions. The Committee has been very proactive in ensuring all managers have robust processes in order to minimise alcolol-related harm. Sales of alcohol to minors is a major contributor to alcolol-related harm.
Under-age students , accompanied by Police and a Licensing Inspector, are used to test the district’s premises in these control operations – the students enter the premises and attempt to purchase alcohol.
