The Waimakariri District Council is one of the largest employers in the Waimakariri District and has become an employer of choice.
Waimakariri is one of the fastest growing districts in New Zealand. There is a projected 24% increase in the percentage of people aged 65 years and over living in the district by 2018 (Stats NZ 2017). They also project that by 2048, approximately 30% of people in the District will be 65 years and over.
The change in the population make-up is also a national and international phenonomen. So the government is encouraging Councils to work with their communities to consider both the social and built environments as they plan for the future.
