We are constructing a new water main in Sidey Quay, between Ranfurly and Cridland Street, to replace an existing supply main which has reached its end of life.
This work is part of the routine water renewals program conducted across the District, to proactively replace ageing infrastructure. It is being undertaken to ensure continuity of water supply to the adjacent properties and surrounding area into the long term.
The work will include
- The existing alkathene mains, supplying the properties on the north-east side of Sidey Quay between Ranfurly and Cridland Streets, will be replaced with 370m of 63mm diameter water main.
- Three road crossings to connect to the main on the south-west side of the road.
- Installation of new laterals and property connections.
Timing of work
The work is planned to commence from 10 August and is expected to last around one month. Affected properties near the work site will receive a letter drop from the contractor advising them of more specific timings and effects.
How the work may affect you
There will be a loss of some street parking spaces through the duration of the work.
Access to property driveways may be affected during the day. However, residents will be able to park their cars up their driveways overnight.
There will be a temporary disruption to the water supply for some properties while the new main is connected to the existing network. These residents will be notified directly of timings and further details.
Traffic impacts
There will be an eastbound lane closure for much of the construction duration. During this time traffic will be diverted via Cridland or Walker Streets.
Temporary full road closures may be required to complete the water road crossings.
Pedestrian access will remain open. However, the route may vary from normal, the contractor and signage will direct pedestrians through the site safely.

Kerbside Collections

Please warn your children of the dangers posed by road works. Ensure that they stay well back from the work site and they follow the directions of the workers.
