This work is part of the routine water renewals program conducted across the District, to proactively replace ageing infrastructure. It is being undertaken to ensure continuity of water supply to the adjacent properties and surrounding area into the long term.

The work will include

• 118m of 180mm diameter water main to replace the existing asbestos cement main between Queen and Alfred Streets.
• Installation of a new 50mm diameter sub main to connect the adjacent properties.

Timing of work

The work is planned to commence from 27 July and is expected to last around one month. Affected properties near the work site will receive a letter drop from the Contractor advising them of more specific timings and effects.

How the work may affect you

There will be a loss of some parking spaces on Percival Street between Queen and Alfred Streets through the duration of the work.

Access to the carpark behind the Council Library will remain open. However, for part of the work the entrance from Percival Street will be entry only, with exit at King Street. Access to other carparks in the area will remain open throughout the construction period.

There will be a temporary disruption to the water supply for some properties while the new main is connected to the existing network. These residents will be notified directly of timings and further details.

Traffic impacts

There will be a northbound lane closure for part of the construction duration. During this time northbound traffic will be diverted at the Queen Street roundabout toward either Victoria or King Streets.

Pedestrian access will remain open along Percival Street. However, pedestrians will be able to use the eastern footpath only for portions of the work.

General impacts

Hours

Work will generally be undertaken between 7am and 6pm weekdays. Some limited portions of work may be required outside of this notice, in which case directly affected residents will be notified.

Kerbside collections

Your kerbside collections will remain unchanged. Please ensure your bag or bins are in their usual spot on collection day.

Notice of changes in traffic management

We will do our best to give you enough notice to adjust to any changes in traffic management, please keep an eye out for more updates.

Weather

In the event of bad weather or unforeseen circumstances, the work may be delayed.

Safety

Please warn your children of the dangers posed by road works. Ensure that they stay well back from the work site and they follow the directions of the workers.

Noise and dirt

Road work is a noisy, dirty business — but please bear with us. We will be doing all we can to minimise the impact on your home/business. Your cooperation and patience will help us get the job done as quickly as possible. All work will be carried out between the stated hours and over week days only to help minimise the impact on the community.

Easy does it

Bitumen, concrete and other road repair materials require a bit of care after they are applied. Please treat all new surfaces with extra care following the completion of this project.
