Temporary Warning Signs in Place at Southbrook Stream

Warning signs have been put in place at the Smith Street end of Southbrook Stream this morning. These are precautionary.

Environment Canterbury (ECan) has placed precautionary warning signs at the Smith Street end of the creek to advise the public of potential contamination. These signs are in place from this morning, and further information is available on ECan’s website.

Early yesterday, a brief wastewater overflow occurred at the Wastewater Treatment Plant during planned maintenance, and a small amount of wastewater entered the nearby creek. The issue was quickly stopped, and the plant is operating normally.

Water quality testing is now underway, and the signs will remain in place until results confirm there is no ongoing risk.

Thank you for your understanding.
