Kerb and Channel Renewal – Seddon Street Rangiora

Kerb and channel renewal to commence 22 April 2026.

This work is part of the Waimakariri District Council’s annual kerb and channel renewal programme where aging and deteriorating kerb and channel is replaced.

This work will be carried out at the following locations on Seddon Street:

  • North side between Ayers Street and White Street
  • South side between White Street and Kinley Street.
The work will include
  • Replacing the older kerb and channel with newer kerb and channel
  • Installation of stormwater pipes and soakage pits to assist with drainage
  • Driveway reconstruction
  • Footpath to remain as is
  • Installation of a grass berm between the existing footpath, and the proposed kerb alignment
  • Planting of street trees:

– The planting of street trees within existing streets is part of Council’s commitment to achieving environmental and sustainability goals, as well as improving the amenity of existing streetscapes, and complying with the Council’s Engineering Code of Practice.

– The trees selected for Seddon Street, Pink Flowering Cherry Tree, have been chosen to suit the specific site, taking into account ground/soil conditions, the available space, and the orientation of the street. All trees will be installed with root barrier to prevent roots from damaging underground services and other infrastructure.

Timing of work

The work is planned to commence on Wednesday 22 April and is expected to be take up to six weeks.

How the work may affect you

Driveway access may be impacted during business hours however all access will be restored each night. The contractor will liaise with residents if vehicles are required to be out of any driveways early morning In advance.

Traffic impacts

Delays should be minimal and will be communicated in advance.

General impacts
Kerbside collections

Your kerbside collections will remain unchanged. Please ensure your bag or bins are in their usual spot on collection day.

Essential services

There will be no planned disruption to your water, wastewater, telephone or power services.

Notice of changes in traffic management

We will do our best to give you enough notice to adjust to any changes in traffic management, please keep an eye out for more updates.

Hours

All work will be undertaken between 7am and 6pm, Monday to Friday with some Saturday work possible.

Weather

In the event of bad weather or for unforeseen circumstances, the work may be delayed.

Safety

Please warn your children of the dangers posed by road works. Ensure that they stay well back from the work site and they follow the directions of the workers.

Noise and dirt

Road work is a noisy, dirty business — but please bear with us. We will be doing all we can to minimise the impact on your home/business. Your cooperation and patience will help us get the job done as quickly as possible. All work will be carried out between the stated hours.

Easy does it

Bitumen, concrete and other road repair materials require a bit of care after they are applied. Please treat all new surfaces with extra care following the completion of this project.
