On 10 September, the Ministry for Regulation is removing ‘Offensive Trades’ rules from the Health Act 1956.
Under the Act, businesses carrying out certain activities were required to register annually with Council to help manage potential nuisance and public health effects. These activities included fish curing, leather tanning, flax pulping and nightsoil collection.
Following a review by the Ministry for Regulation, the registration requirements have been removed as they no longer reflect modern regulatory practice.
Key changes
Annual registration with, and inspections by, the Waimakariri District Council will no longer be required.
The Government will remove the list of offensive trades from Schedule 3 of the Health Act 1956.
