Mayoral relief fund

Each year the Waimakariri District Council sets aside funds to assist individuals who require emergency financial assistance.

Applications are approved or declined by the Mayor and his adviser, and applicants should be aware that the the fund has limited income. Grants will be one-off.

Priority for funding:

  • power or gas disconnected, with young children living at the property
  • emergency accommodation required
  • family or personal crisis
  • unable to buy food as a result of an emergency
  • homelessness as a result of an emergency.

Guidelines:

  • Applicants must be a resident in the Waimakariri District
  • The event, or requirement for funds is for a situation of financial hardship
  • All applicants will be assessed individually.
  • Applicants must complete an application form and provide proof of need, such as an eviction letter, a letter confirming that power has been disconnected, letters of refusal for advances from Work and Income, or proof of unexpected expenditures.
