It's Colourful - It's Creative - It's Quirky - It's High Street
Friday, 20 July 2012
The Rangiora Community Board is mounting a unique and very different promotion to brighten up Rangiora’s High Street.
As part of an overall campaign to counteract the effect of the safety fences and protective containers that currently adorn High Street, the Community Board has a large variety of silhouetted ‘shapes’ which they’re asking various community groups to decorate and which will then be hung along the High Street fences creating a creatively kaleidoscopic effect.
To start the ball rolling, this morning local artist Caroline Trevella hung two of her creations on the fence outside the Farmers building. It’s hoped that the creations will provide inspiration and encouragement for other groups and individuals to follow suit.
The Board has a number of different silhouette shapes to be decorated and ‘artists’ have a free reign in deciding how to decorate the silhouettes given the bounds of good taste. Caroline Trevella has created two examples, one filled in as a Medusa-type cartoon person and the other as a scenic representation.
An invitation to take part has been sent to a diverse number of groups ranging from schools to art groups to community organisations. In addition the organisers are keen to hear from any individual or group who wants to take part. Those who are interested can contact Board member Judith Hoult at bjhoult@clear.net.nz or phone (03) 313 7558 to find out more.
Although there are no guarantees that every effort will appear on the fences, the Board hopes to have a large number of contributions decorating the fences by the end of August.
