Extension Work to Start at Woodend Community Centre

Friday, 31 August 2012

Contractors start work next week on the extensions to the Woodend Community Centre.

The extensions will provide new meeting and conference room spaces and changing, kitchen and storage facilities will be upgraded. Also included in the project are upgrades for the car park and external landscaping.

While construction work is taking place part of the Centre’s parking area will be fenced off and unavailable for parking. However the remaining area of the car park can still be used for parking.

During the construction there will be periods of noise, dust and vibration. Householders in the vicinity are being advised of this and contractors have advised that this will be kept to a minimum – working hours will be between 7.30am and 5pm on weekdays and 9am and 1pm on Saturdays. The construction will also necessitate some movement of heavy machinery at times along School Road .

Parts of the Centre will still be available for public use during the construction period – the sports hall will remain open for most of the construction period, but there will be no changing rooms and only limited temporary toilet facilities.

Bookings can be made as normal through the Council’s office on 03 311 8900. The playcentre will be open throughout the construction – however, the walkway from Somerset Place will be closed throughout construction.

The project is due to be completed by April 2013.
