Other than previously set out where the cost of processing an application exceeds the fixed fee by more than 30%, the additional charges (beyond the 30% margin) will be invoiced on a cost recovery basis as per the hourly rate schedule. Applications will be advised if this provision is invoked.
 
There is no PIM included. Fixed fees cover the cost of a services and compliance check sheet; if a PIM is required a separate fee is payable.
 
Fixed fee charges are offered on the basis that all information required to determine compliance with the Building Code and/or the District Plan are satisfactory to determine compliance.
If we have to seek further information to address shortfalls in the documentation, any additional time will be charged. In addition, if your project is valued over $20,000, the fixed fee will increase by the value of the DBH and BRANZ levies.
 
* Fixed fee covers a consent for one barn. If two barns are being built with a combined area of less than 100 m2 two fees would be payable.

Building Research Levy (BRANZ)
The Building Research Levy is authorised under the Building Research Levy Act 1969. Under this Act, 0.1% of the contract value (exceeding $20,000) of every construction project put forward for building consent in New Zealand is payable by the builder to Building Research. The intent is to provide money for research into improved techniques and materials for use in the building industry.
 
   
Building Levy (DBH)
The Building Levy is authorised under the Building Act sections 53, 55, and 402, and provides for the Governor-General to set the levy in a Building Levy Order. This levy is used to fund the department's functions under the Building Act 2004. It is now set at $1.97 per $1,000 of building work for which there is a consent, and is only collected on building works valued at $20,000 or more.
