Western Belfast Bypass Open Day

Published: 20-Oct-2017

People are being given the chance to get up close and personal with Canterbury's newest stretch of motorway during an open day on Sunday 29 October. The NZ Transport Agency is inviting people to walk, run and cycle on the 4km long Western Belfast Bypass before it opens to traffic from early November.

The open day will run from 10am until 2pm, and offers a once in a lifetime chance to experience the new road before it opens to the public. Western Belfast Bypass Aerial Photo

There will be an information hub on site where you can find out all about the project, as well as construction machinery to see. During the open day there will be giveaways, a colouring competition for kids, plenty of free water and sunscreen and bathroom facilities along the route.

The interactive Safety MAN Road Safety Truck will be onsite, sharing safety tips, showing fun safety videos and giving people the chance to experience what it's like to be a truck driver.

Parking is available at The Groynes, with a designated area for mobility parking also available near The Groynes entrance. Staff will escort people in their cars onto the project area, right by the info hub.

Visit the NZ Transport Agency website for more information about the event and the Western Belfast Bypass project.
