Stock-Water Races Shutdown Today

Published: 17-Aug-2017

The Waimakariri stock-water scheme will be shut down today, with the water flows expected to resume on Friday. The shutdown is to allow Council to begin the process of lining sections of the main race. Ongoing seepage monitoring of the canal over the past year has highlighted the need for this work, which is expected to be completed by mid-September.

The bypass channel will maintain a reduced flow for all stock-water races until the lining works are completed.

It has been a turbulent winter with high rainfall resulting in flooding events.

We appreciate your understanding as to how difficult it can be during these times to combine maintenance works and minimise flood events, while trying to keep a reliable water supply going.

Keep an eye on our website and facebook page over the coming weeks as we will keep you updated on further closures.

Council apologises for any inconvenience caused, and appreciates your understanding as this work is critical, and is being timed to ensure a more reliable supply of water when demand is critical through the spring and summer months.
