Stock Water Race Shutdown Tomorrow

Published: 09-Aug-2017

Stock water for the Waimakariri scheme will be shut down tomorrow morning, with the water flows expected to resume on Friday. The shutdown is to allow us to begin the process of lining sections of the main race.

20170802_CowsOngoing seepage monitoring of the canal over the past year has highlighted the need for this work, which is expected to take five weeks.

In order to carry out the lining, water will be diverted around the work site via a bypass channel. This will minimise the disruption, while allowing contractors to install the liner. The bypass channel will maintain a reduced flow for all stock water races until the lining works are completed.

We will keep you updated on further closures over the coming weeks.

Please allow some time for flows to resume.

We apologise for the inconvenience, but this work is critical, and is being timed to ensure a more reliable supply of water when demand is critical in spring and summer.
