But there is so much going on in the Waimakariri this winter – time to wrap up warm and get out and enjoy the diverse range of things to do and see in our district over the coming weeks.

Mayor David Ayers says “People look at winter as a dismal time of the year and, whilst we can certainly get some cold weather, we still have so many fantastic events and activities across the district.”Rangiora Winter Festival 2016

Coming up this weekend is the iconic Kaiapoi Art Expo. With work from over 100 artists being showcased there is sure to be something for everyone.  Once you’ve finished admiring the art, get yourself over to Blackwell’s Department Store to enjoy the amazing work of renowned ice sculptor Victor Cagayat and his live ice sculpture demonstration.  There will also be a chance to enjoy music and lovely food at the night market from 6pm.

And that’s not all, excitement is building around the return of the Rangiora Winter Festival that made its debut last year.  Spread over four days, there is plenty to enjoy for the whole family - from ice-skating and a drive-in movie, to a cocktail evening and full-day town festival with delicious food, great music, activities galore and a farmers market full of stalls.

“It’s really great to see our local businesses providing great activities for residents and for businesses alike.  As a Council we love to support events that bring our communities together” says David.

So put the date in your diary, invite your family and friends to join you and support the great range of diverse activities right on your own doorstep.
