Oxford Community Drills Liquid Gold

Published: 14-Jun-2017

Drilling of the new Oxford Rural No.1 well has been successful in striking a deep water source.

20170614_OxfordDrillThe location of the new well, which has been established on council-owned land 500m west of the McPhedrons Road/Watsons Reserve Road intersection, was chosen following an extensive public consultation exercise in March.

The consultation revealed some concerns with the initially suggested site.

Public feedback brought to light the fact that the originally proposed location, at the corner of Watsons Reserve and McPhedrons Road, was close to the site of a historic sheep dip.

This information had not been documented in local land use records.

The revelation necessitated a change of plan, with Council obtaining external expert advice which recommended moving the proposed bore upstream to the new location.

Initial indications suggest the drilling has tapped into a good water source.

This will now be verified by test pumping to determine the yield, as well as water quality testing to prove the security of the source.

We will keep you posted as this project progresses.
