Kaiapoi River Rehabilitation Project Now Open for Feedback

Published: 07-Apr-2017

The Council is aware of growing interest in the community about the water quality, habitat and ecology and appearance and amenity provided by the Kaiapoi River and its tributaries.

These include a growing interest in the opportunities for recreation and amenity improvements for those fishing, boating and walking in and around the river, as well as concerns about navigation access and safety for vessels using the River.

The Working Party has developed a number of proposals for which it is now seeking community feedback. These are summarised as follows:

  • Water Quality and Habitat
  • Fishing and Walking
  • Navigation Improvements

Public feedback on these proposals will be summarised and presented to the Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Board, Environment Canterbury and the Waimakariri District Council.

These bodies will use this feedback to determine a pathway forward. The feedback will also assist the two Councils to consider the future funding that would be needed to implement the projects that are supported by the community.
