The Waimakariri District Council is one of the largest employers in the Waimakariri District and has become an employer of choice.
Work on the arterial road that will swing around the western side of the Silverstream subdivision will begin early next month.
The contract has been awarded to HEB Construction who will start work on Wednesday 18 January.
HEB have worked in the district previously on the Kaiapoi and
Rangiora Town Centre upgrades.
The arterial road is to be built from the Island Road/Ohoka
Road intersection, running around the western side of the subdivision, before
re-joining Island Road just east of where it intersects with Butchers and Mill
It will provide important safety improvements and improve
the flow of traffic between Kaiapoi and Rangiora. Once completed, it will serve as the main arterial
thoroughfare, allowing the existing section of Island Road, from Butchers Road
to Cosgrove Road, to revert back to its former life as a residential street.
The new link will also assist with the development of land
within the West Kaiapoi Development Plan area, as was signalled in the District
As part of the upgrade, new bridges will be constructed to
cross the Kaiapoi River (at Silverstream) and also the Ohoka River (near Mill
Road). The new road will intersect Island Road/Ohoka Road, Silverstream
Boulevard, Giles Road, Butchers Road, Hayson Drive and Mill Road.
It is expected the road will take up to a year to complete,
but access to properties will be maintained during this period, with any
restrictions to be notified in advance.
Temporary traffic management will be in place, with some
aspects of the work undertaken at night to reduce the impact on road users. Night works will be notified in advance.
General hours of work on the project will be 7.30am-6pm
Monday to Saturday.
