Town Centre's Light up for Christmas

Published: 06-Dec-2016

Fairy lights will light up the Kaiapoi and Rangiora Town Centre's this Christmas. However this is only a temporary measure until a more permanent lighting solution is confirmed.

Council has commissioned a lighting expert to provide a long term Christmas lighting plan for both Kaiapoi and Rangiora using new lighting technology. The lighting plans will be presented to the Rangiora-Ashley and Kaiapoi-Tuahiwi Community Boards for consideration next year. Also involved in the process will be both the Rangiora Promotions Association and the Kaiapoi Promotions Association.

Councillor Dan Gordon, Business, Promotion and Town Centre's Portfolio Holder says "There's a lot of retail buzz around the Town Centre's with shops and businesses doing a great job of creating a Christmas feel. Council now has an opportunity in front of us to make sure we get the Town Centre Christmas lighting right. We look forward to announcing the new permanent lighting plan next year and having the new lights installed in time for Christmas 2017".

Fairy lights have been strung into trees in Rangiora's High Street at the Durham and Percival Street intersections and in trees around the river in Kaiapoi. The street flags are in the process of being changed to Christmas designs.
