Regeneration Areas Still Under Crown Ownership

While the Recovery Plan for Kaiapoi, The Pines Beach and Kairaki was approved yesterday, Council does not yet manage the land in the regeneration areas (excluding the existing roads and reserves).  The land is still owned by the Crown.

In the New Year the Council will be working with the Crown to determine how the regeneration areas will be transferred to Council (and others).  This is called the land divestment process, and this is to be consistent with the land uses defined in the Recovery Plan.  Once we have some clarity around this process we will be able to advise the next steps.  It should be noted however that the Recovery Plan approved by the Crown yesterday does not include any provision for residential development in the regeneration areas.
