Kerbside Collection

Only those properties that are rated for kerbside collection are eligible for kerbside collection services, ie, refuse bag collection and recycling.

Current collection rates are set at $79.00 per annum.  Please note, the Council no longer delivers refuse bags nor does it charge for the bags in the rates.

Refuse Bag Collection:

Only "official" Waimakariri District Council refuse bags will be collected.  "Official" Waimakariri District Council refuse bags can be purchased from any of the Council Service Centres and most local supermarkets in the District.
Council retail price $1.60 per bag for single bag, $8.00 for a 5-pack and $16.00 for a 10-pack. A 25-pack is $37.50

Please have your refuse bags at the kerbside by 8am on your rubbish collection day.

Please do not overload your refuse bags as there is a 15kg weight limit per bag.

Recycling:

Recycling crates have been provided for each property.  Please leave the recycling crate on the property if you move.  If your recycling crate is stolen, lost or damaged, please ask for a free replacement from any of the Council Service Centres.

If you have built a new house, a recycling crate will be issued to your property (providing you are eligible, ie, rated for kerbside collection).  Please call into any of the Council Service Centres.

Additional crates can be purchased (either to recycle more at the kerbside or as a handy container to take your recycling to the transfer station) for the retail price of $20.00 including GST.

Please remember, the materials you put out for recycling are handled by people, not machines.  Please be considerate:

  • no hazardous or injurious materials
  • no dirty, smelly or offensive materials
  • if in doubt, ask yourself if you'd like to handle this item
  • please do not overload your recycling crate as there is a 15kg weight limit per crate.

Please have your crate at the kerbside by 8am on your rubbish collection day and place secured bags of paper on the crate and tied bundles of cardboard beside the crate.

Public Holidays in 2009:

Normal collections take place when your rubbish and recycling day falls on:

  • Waitangi Day - Friday 6 February
  • Easter Monday - 13 April
  • Queens Birthday - Monday 1 June
  • Labour Day - Monday 26 October
  • Show Day - Friday 13 November

Northern Kaiapoi CBD collections will take place on the Thursday before Show Day, and not on this holiday, to ensure the collection from businesses in the CBD. Please ensure that all bags and crates are out by 8am, (properties in CBD, by 9am). The contractor may come earlier in your street if there is less refuse and recycling to collect.

The following Public Holidays DO NOT have rubbish and recycling collection:

  • Easter Good Friday - Friday 10 April
  • Christmas Day - Friday 25 December
  • New Years Day - Friday 1 January 2010

As all of these holidays fall on Friday this year, please place your bags and crates out for collection on the following Saturday.

Remember to have your bags and crates out by 8am to ensure collection, properties in CBD, by 9am. We will advertise in The Northern Outlook if there is any change to this.
Please refer to local newspapers on Wednesday and Saturday prior to the holiday for full details.
